We welcome you as an applicant to join our team!  The Lexington Fire Department consists of 18 dedicated firefighters that live or work in Lexington or live within 7 minutes of the station (within the surrounding communities of Circle Pines or east Blaine).  All of our members are paid, on-call firefighters that respond to emergencies when notified via a pager.  After the submission of an application, a review process begins with contact by the Fire Chief.  Benefits are discussed with applicants at their interview.

Requirements

  • Firefighters must live or work within the City of Lexington, or be within 7 minutes of the station. The surrounding area within the response time includes the City of Circle Pines and East Blaine.  New firefighters must be between the ages of 18-50.
  • Firefighters must be in good physical condition, and must be able to perform all aspects of fire fighting, including wearing positive pressure SCBA equipment. Must be able to pass a complete physical to include; an EKG, urine testing, pulmonary function tests and blood pressure tests. Firefighters must be able to pass these physicals including a SCBA Fit test on an annual basis.
  • While performing the duties as a firefighter, the firefighter is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, talk, hear, and listen.
  • The firefighter must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Firefighters must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, and accurately complete required reports. Possess the ability to communicate professionally with the general public, other firefighters and officers. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Firefighters must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
  • Firefighters must not have any felony convictions, and must be of sound moral character.
  • Firefighters must complete state required Firefighter I and II schooling and must become state certified.
  • Firefighters must also complete first responder training as required.
  • Firefighters must also attend an in-house CEVO driving course, complete behind the wheel, and be certified by the department.
  • Firefighters will also be required to attend SCBA, Bloodborne pathogens, and Haz-Mat training on a regular basis.
  • In addition, all firefighters will be required to maintain their firefighter and first responder certifications by maintaining the required hours and refresher training.
  • Firefighters will also be required to attend calls based on the average number of calls, availability, and total department averages. Firefighters not maintaining the average may be subject to disciplinary action.
